Terms of Reference: Design of Financing Strategy for the Mesoamerican Territorial Fund (FTM)

The Mesoamerican Territorial Fund (FTM) is an alternative financial mechanism designed by the Mesoamerican Alliance of Peoples and Forests (AMPB) to strengthen the livelihoods and consolidate the rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) of Mesoamerica in the implementation of their own initiatives in the care of nature; the consolidation of their individual and collective rights; and to support their participation in the design and implementation of environmental policies compatible with territorial rights and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) that countries have assumed at the global level to reverse climate change.

The FTM has the following approaches: Targeted on local investment, Rights-based, Based on the principles of equality, inclusion, full and effective participation of Indigenous Peoples and local organizations, in territorial alliances, in a monitoring and evaluation system, and Open calls for small and medium-sized grants in order to receive applications from any territory in the Mesoamerican region.

Objective of the consultancy

The main objective of this consultancy is to strengthen the Mesoamerican Territorial Fund (FTM) in legal, organizational and strategic planning terms. To achieve this, it seeks to develop a funding strategy to support the activities of the Mesoamerican Alliance of Peoples and Forests, partner organizations and promote the objectives of the entity. The selected consultant must have experience in development cooperation with multilateral agencies, governments, private donors and corporate philanthropy. This consultancy seeks to strengthen FTM’s capacity to advance its objectives and contribute to sustainable development in the Mesoamerican region.
