Shared experiences build the next steps in the implementation of the Mesoamerican School of Leadership

Sep 10, 2021 | News

From August 22nd to 29th, The Mesoamerican School of Leadership (EML by its Spanish initials) held a Regional Workshop, in which the facilitators from each country and the core team met to share experiences and together plan the upcoming actions in the implementation of the Leadership Training Program in each territory.

The EML country team is made up of Briggith Allen and Aurelio Ramos, facilitators in the Honduran Mosquitia, Carolina Alvarado and Manuel Martinez from Petén Guatemala, Yanisbeth Gonzales and Alcibíades Rodríguez from the Gunayala Comarca in Panama and Dayana Reyes from Talamanca, Costa Rica.

The Core team is integrated by: Marcial Lopez, director, Jorge Iran Vasquez as a technical and monitoring facilitator, and Catalina Trejos, communications coordinator.

At the beginning of the workshop, Levi Sucre, Coordinator of the Mesoamerican Alliance of Peoples and Forests, shared with the EML team his vision of the School and its importance in developing leadership for political advocacy in each territory.

The facilitators from each country met together in person for the first time.  Recently, the facilitators from Panama (see note) and the Costa Rican facilitator joined the team.  The teams from Honduras and Guatemala started in 2019, which allowed them to share with the new group about their experience and learning.

Also, each country team shared an analysis of the context of their territory, which allowed them to learn about the different characteristics, positive aspects, challenges, and the role that EML plays in each place.

Currently, the EML has monitored the development of the Training Program in each territory (Honduran Mosquitia, Petén, Gunayala Comarca, and Talamanca) and adjusted the methodology to work towards the main objective: to continue training leaders committed to their communities to strengthen the organization and territorial governance.
