Líderes indígenas de la Alianza Mesoamericana de Pueblos y Bosques (AMPB) sostuvieron un encuentro en Nicaragua con el Presidente de la Alianza del Clima y Alcalde de Colonia, el Sr. Andreas Wolter, con quien conversaron de forma extendida sobre futuras perspectivas de colaboración.

Durante la reunión, Cándido Mezua, Secretario de relaciones internacionales de la AMPB, expuso acerca de la importancia de la gestión territorial que realizan los pueblos indígenas y comunidades forestales para enfrentar y reducir los efectos del cambio climático, sobre todo en una región tan vulnerable como Centroamérica y México. De igual forma, Nancy Enríquez, líder Misquita, destacó que a pesar que las comunidades han garantizado por generaciones la vida de los bosques y la biodiversidad, enfrentan la presión de invasión de sus territorios y el verdadero ejercicio de los derechos reconocidos internacionalmente.

"In Mesoamerica it is very important to strengthen ties with climate allies. This meeting is a great opportunity to strengthen ties and bring closer the efforts of territorial organizations and platforms such as the Climate Alliance, which has been doing a great job in addressing climate change," Mezúa emphasized.

The meeting took place within the framework of the Mayor's tour to Peru and Nicaragua, for the implementation of several projects supported by ecological municipalities in Europe.

The Climate Alliance is a body that brings together more than 1,700 towns and regions from 26 European countries with a common task: that of exchanging experiences and supporting initiatives aimed at reducing the causes of climate change from a municipal perspective, with the aim of passing municipal resolutions in which they commit to reducing CO2 emissions by 10% every 5 years, equivalent to half of emissions by 2030.
