The Mesoamerican Peoples and Forests Alliance celebrates 10 years of being the voice of indigenous peoples and local communities in the region. Under the slogan "We are 10 years of struggle, we are people's forests", the celebrations will begin with the VIII Mesoamerican Territorial Congress, a series of virtual events that will take place from Tuesday, December 8 to Thursday, December 10. This congress will review the achievements, obstacles and lessons learned from the last decade, as well as the challenges for the future.
The day of reflection will begin with the Virtual Assembly of Territorial Women Leaders on December 8 at 9:00 AM Central American time, 10:00 AM Panama time. It will be organized by the Mesoamerican Women Leaders Coordinating Committee, which is also celebrating its second anniversary. The main theme of this event will be "Gender equity is part of the solution to climate change" and the panorama of the territorial agenda with a gender perspective in the region will be analyzed.
On Wednesday, December 9, starting at 9:30 AM Central American time, 10:30 AM Panama time, the Mesoamerican Leadership School will make a presentation on its construction and trajectory. In addition, the panel "Biodiversity protection and territorial governance: contribution and challenges from the Mesoamerican youth" will be held with the participation of young leaders from the region.
Finalmente, la celebración cerrará con la Asamblea Anual de la AMPB el jueves 10 de diciembre a partir de las 9:00 AM hora de Centroamérica, 10:00 AM hora de Panamá. El tema principal será “Una década por la lucha y la defensa de los derechos territoriales”, se hará una reflexión del recorrido de los últimos 10 años, se conversará sobre la gestión de los territorios en el contexto de los huracanes y la pandemia, y se hará el lanzamiento del Manifiesto de la AMPB.
